Summer baby

I have lots of pregnant friends right now. I appreciate pregnancy so much more when it’s not me enduring the long 9 months! It’s fun to watch their bellies grow!! Such a beautiful process πŸ™‚

Anyway, I got the wonderful opportunity to take some pics for a friend of mine yesterday. She is 35ish weeks pregnant.

Oh and YES she is having a BOY!! πŸ™‚

I think she had a pink umbrella. That being said, I don’t think your edit was horrible. The blue.silver umbrella looks pretty good to my untrained eye!

  2. L says:

I am guessing that she is having a boy. The pink one is real I think.

I don’t think it looks that bad. I would never have noticed without looking closely and comparing the two. Is there any way to change the colour and still leave in the shadows?

  3. Ashley says:

    I think she’s having a boy?

I don’t think it looks too unrealistic!

  4. Mama Fee says:

I truly thought yall had 2 different umbrellas. Looks great!

  5. Amanda says:

Is she having a boy? The white on the first umbrella is really white – that’s the only way I would know!

  6. Pink umbrella is real. I think the edit is great except for that the blue lines are too straight. They don’t match up with the curve of the umbrella. If you can make the lines curved it would be prefect.

    Beautiful photo!!

  7. ALL BOY!

Great photo – it would be awesome to use as her thank you notes for her baby shower.

    Wanna shoot my maternity pics…..someday!!!!

  8. Cassie says:

The photo is beautiful. At first I wasn’t able to tell the difference, honestly. Only after staring at it for several minutes have I decided the blue is the edit. I don’t think it looks bad at all, do you think people will really stare at it to critique it?

I think it would look great in B&W, but ask your friend what she likes best. She may like the edit!

  9. Megan says:

I love the pose! So pretty and classy, yet fun!

Have you tried changing the hue/saturation as a means of changing the color? Select just the lines/just the umbrella, then use the hue slider to change the color to something more gender appropriate. It’s a good way to keep the curves, shadows, and depth of the original.

Would love to see the whole session!

  10. cjkoz says:

She’s having a boy. You can tell by the shadows at the bottom. However, I had to look at it for tiny bit. Thank you for the lens advice. You totally confused me with the photography talk but I will follow your advice and get that lens.

  11. Mama Tully says:

I think she was actually holding the pink umbrella? Cute idea for a maternity photo!

  12. I think it’s a boy and the pink was the edit. Love the shot by the way!

  13. D says:

The pink one looks like the original to me, but if you hadn’t told me to look for it I would probably never have noticed!

  14. I think she’s having a boy. Your edit looked really good though, I would never have noticed if you hadn’t said anything.

  15. Mrs. W says:

I honestly cannot tell which one is the edit! I think they look great!!

  16. Tana says:

I’m saying she’s having a boy. I couldn’t really tell with the first glace (i looked at her belly haha). But after studying it more, I could tell that the blue was the edited one.

What a great pose! That’d be a great way to tell family/friends what the sex of the baby is when you find out.

Something to remember for the next baby. πŸ™‚

  17. Elizabeth says:

What a cute picture – I do think if you study the edits that you can tell, but still a great job πŸ™‚

I wish I would have seen this earlier; I have some friends that are pregnant too and been doing a few photo shoots with bellies. I didn’t post everything on my blog, but here is a sneak peek ( and if you email me I can show what I did (seeing as the sex of their baby is a surprise).

    Love your work!

  18. Barb says:

I think the original umbrella is the blue umbrella because of the white in the umbrella(so she’s having a girl?).

  19. Barb says:

Nevermind, I change my mind (I looked at it at full size). lol It looks like you missed around the edges? So I think the pink is original.

  20. Barb says:

Yep, pink is definitely the original. It’s noticeable now after studying…but I don’t think it helps that I know what I’m looking for. It’s a very good edit. πŸ™‚

Cute photo btw – and sorry for all the comments. lol

  21. Care says:

thanks everyone!! I edited it again (twice!) ha. Im not completely crazy, Im just planning on using it for a gift at the shower, so wanted to make it look perfect.

Barb – I will admit, I was a little scared you were going to come in here and tell me I sucked. LOL. You are the queen of editing. Glad I stumped you πŸ™‚

  22. Barb says:

Woo hoo! Glad to see I was right in the end πŸ™‚ lol I like this MUCH better!

  23. Nat says:

OMG…what a beautiful picture. Love the umbrella, the baby bump, the dress, the trees. Great job!

  24. Much better! I love the green one. Too cute!

  25. Megan says:

You are so very welcome, Carolyn! It makes it soooo much easier, doesn’t it???

  26. Lindsay says:

    Very beautiful!
