Meet your photographer!

Hi there, I’m Carolyn! My family and I recently relocated from Seattle, WA to Houston, TX and I am thrilled to redevelop my business down here. I am not totally new to the area, I went to high school here and graduated with a business degree from the University of Houston, so I’m happy to be back.

I believe there is no such thing as too many flowers or too much color. I’m a bit of an old house addict. I can only quote two movies (Father of the Bride & Christmas Vacation). I’m always up for a good adventure. We spent nearly 7 years away from Texas, which means 7 years away from Tex-Mex. I cried a little each time I asked for queso and out came a plate of shredded cheese (true story). Needless to say, we are making up for lost time by eating tex-mex every chance we can get (and my pants are getting tighter). I’ve lived in 5 states and 5 countries, but I can’t speak any other languages (one of my biggest regrets!). I almost always make friends with the stranger sitting next to me on a plane. One time I even shared a cab with a couple of people I met on a plane. I rarely order the same thing twice, but then I am more frequently disappointed by a meal, while my husband always sticks with what he likes and is never disappointed (I feel like that sentence sums up our entire relationship lol). Most days I can’t believe I’m an adult (let alone a mom!). I have a husband named Mike and three daughters named Portia, Adelaide and Scarlett. They fill my life with fun. (They also fill my life with noise and constant piles of laundry, but let’s focus on the fun.) I have a love/hate relationship with Houston (sorry Htown!). My husband and I got married at a little old English pub in San Francisco (The Pelican Inn). It was a cold April day. I loved every second of it!

I got my start in photography many years ago as one of the photographers for the high school paper. I can’t really say that’s when it all began though, because there was a 5 year gap where I went to college, became a mom, got a bachelors degree, worked as an insurance agent, met the man of my dreams, worked as a commercial real estate marketing manager, lived in 4 states and got married.

Just as things were settling down and life was going really great, BAM! I got pregnant with baby #2 (yay!) and laid off all within the span of a week. At the time I was devastated about the timing of the lay-off, but as people say, “for every door that closes, a new one opens”. For the first time in many years, I found myself with extra time on my hands, so I dug out my old film SLR and started shooting.

My daughter, who was 4 at the time, was very camera averse (probably because I shoved my big camera in her face every chance I could get), but she eventually learned to love the camera and nowadays is actually quite the good little photog! My not so secret dream is that one day she joins me in this family business, but if she doesn’t want to, well at least I have a couple of other kids to use as backup. Teeheehee. Just kidding. 😉

Needless to say, my love of photography was re-ignited.

I started portfolio building in 2009, photographing anyone that would let me hone my skills. I spent about 18 months doing that free of charge, before starting my business in 2010. Over the years I’ve met some amazing people that have pushed me to reach further. I am only at the beginning of this life-long career, but I am so grateful for the ability to do something I love and for my friends and family that have supported me along the way.

I am more inspired now than I’ve ever been and I can’t wait to meet YOU!
